Everything that rises must Converge

I hated this story from start to end like I really didnt like it it was terrible but it did make me wonder when the YMCA started

Here's what I found

The Young Men's Christian Association was founded in London, England, on June 6, 1844, in response to unhealthy social conditions arising in the big cities at the end of the industrial revolution(roughly 1750 to 1850). Growth of the railroads and centralization of commerce and industry brought many rural young men who needed jobs into cities like London. They worked 10 to 12 hours a day, six days a week.

Oedipus the King

TALK ABOUT TABOO AT ITS FINEST!!!! this dude life sucks killed ur parents did the nasty with yo mamma HAD A BABY ! with yo mamma trying to good by your people only to find out that your the cause of the whole problem Oedipus man if you were ever real and some how some way you read this blog I got you with a hug because your really need it great story other wise hope this becomes a movie i would watch I'm a fan of good drama. Poor Oedipus he really took one for the team.

Nine Ten

After reading this play I really hope I dont end up on jury duty but I wouldnt mind in a way but I would if the trial does become that long ill just claim I'm a felon for the easy way out but this play was nice to read but there really wasnt anything compelling for me to say i enjoyed it.

Beauty

The things women will do to look good for a man or to get laid a couple more times a week. In my eyes all women are beautyful no all are my taste but there is that one man out there who will love the women that she is with not for her clothes, shoes, make-up, hair, nails, but for who they really are.

Where Are you Going Where Have you Been

When I read this play it reminds me of what is going on in todays world where you have young girls picking up this celebrity person just to attract someone sexually,or to be known as the perso that is most similar to that celebrity or whoever they decide to impersonate. This has been land some good young women into things they shouldn't be in. I've herd the saying "dont judge a book by its cover" but some peoples pages are written out of contex and the book isnt as good as advertised or its just a compleatly different story.

I Dream Before I Take the Stand

This was one of the most entertaining plays I've read during this course because you get to see in detail how a lawyer has to just chew up a witness or a suspect and it isnt because he wants to but its because its his job I dont think anyone can be as mindless. Its very tough when you make someone relive a horrid event but as the witness its something you have to go through to get the justice that you desire.....

Tape

This play by Jose Rivera is creepy as creepy gets it seems that its being done in a purgatory where this "person" has to listen to every lie he has ever said and there's 10,000 boxes just imagine having to do that like damn that really sucks make you want to pratice being truthful as much as you can.........

Big Black Good Man

Great story kinda streotypical though. This story shares with the theme of fear and alienation growing out of racial differences. Jim seems completely comfortable with Olaf. Olaf, on the other hand, has a horror of Jim that seems to stem mostly from his blackness. The old man may well have been intimidated by any man as large as Jim, but it is hard to imagine that his revulsion and fear could have been as lasting and as extreme if Jim had not been black.

Again, this impression is supported by the words the narrator uses to describe Jim as Olaf sees him. These words convey that Olaf sees Jim as something less than human and as someone who therefore cannot be counted on to have human thought processes and responses. To Olaf, Jim is a beast who may kill him in a fit of unprovoked rage.

Olaf's baseless, relentless fear of Jim is echoed in late twentieth century and early twenty-first century studies that find that many white people are afraid of, or at least suspicious of, black men in situations where they are not afraid of white men. It is a long-known fact of human nature that human beings generally react negatively to people who are different from themselves. Further, race has been shown to be a difference that many people find particularly threatening. These facts are the central realities of Wright's story.

Sunday in the Park by Bel Kaufman is a short story that sends the reader so many messages and emotions it seems to be much more than what it is. It is not even three full pages, but it has many of the characteristics of a regular novel. It has a subtle introduction that reveals the setting and characters, there is a strong build to the obvious climax and an ending that leaves the reader shocked. The descriptive setting, the narrator, who is the protagonist, and the reality of all the characters, provide for an excellent plot, that causes the reader to put on the protagonist’s shoes, and feel as if they are the main character in the story. These elements of setting, character, point of view, and plot make this story the emotional thriller that it is.

Good Man is Hard to Find

After reading this story (one the goriest I've read in a while) i stumbled upon a symbol from one of the most selfish characthers the grandmother and it her hat (what her hat !!) yea her hat to me her hat represented the sole purpose of showing that she is a lady, represents her misguided moral code.

When the grandmother prepares for the car trip with the family, she dresses up to be prepared for a car accident so that anyone seeing her dead body would know that she’d been a lady. The grandmother seems to be entirely unconcerned with the fact that she’s dead in this scenario and oblivious to the fact that other people including her three grandchildren would have probably died as well. For the grandmother, the only thing that matters is her standing as a lady, a ridiculous concern that reveals her selfishness and flimsy moral conviction. When the grandmother does become involved in a car accident, the hat like her moral convictions falls apart. After she is thrown from the car and the family is facing the Misfit, the brim of the hat falls off. She drops the broken hat as her self-conception as a lady dissolves.

Dinner for One

When i first watched this movie or video clip it was kind of funny but didnt get it after watching it again and reading about it it was very very funny.

The sketch presents the 90th birthday of elderly upper-class Englishwoman Miss Sophie, who hosts a dinner every year for her close friends Mr Pommeroy, Mr Winterbottom, Sir Toby, and Admiral von Schneider to celebrate the occasion. (Note that the plot has nothing to do with New Year's Eve, as is often incorrectly stated.

There is a "Happy new year" toast, but this is purely a reference to Miss Sophie's anniversary.) The problem is that given Miss Sophie's considerable age, she has outlived all of her friends, and so her equally aged manservant James makes his way around the table, impersonating each of the guests in turn. Miss Sophie decides on appropriate drinks to accompany the menu of the evening, consisting of Mulligatawny soup (Miss Sophie orders sherry), North Sea haddock (with white wine), chicken (with champagne), and fruit for dessert (with port) served by James, and so he finds himself raising (and emptying) his glass four times per course.

That takes its toll, increasingly noticeable in James' growing difficulty in pouring the drinks, telling wine glasses from vases of flowers, and refraining from bursting into song. Even before the alcohol begins to exert its influence, he has trouble avoiding the head of a tiger skin laying on the floor between the dinner table and the buffet.

The crucial exchange during every course is:

James: The same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?

Miss Sophie: The same procedure as every year, James!

After the dinner, Miss Sophie indicates to a very drunk James that she wishes to retire to bed, to which James responds.

James: By the way, the same procedure as last year, Miss Sophie?

Miss Sophie (delightedly): The same procedure as every year, James!

James: Well, I'll do my very best!

It is shown every new year in Germany and Switzerland and has been translated and other versions of the movie have been made.

Under The Banyan Tree

It is the story of an old fashioned storyteller named Nambi, in whom Narayan has created a character of mythic dimensions. Nambi was known for telling these great and captivating stories until one day he ran out of story telling juice lol not exactally he struggled to finish a great story he was telling and the people of his village lost faith in him and didnt want to hear from him any more but Nambi explains how his gift was from a godess and he was only able to speak when she had something to say and is struck dumb when she doesnt and says this was the greatest story he's ever told (beacuse it was the truth) after he's says what on his heart he swears himself to silence.(passing away) a few years later.

There were a couple things that I didnt know of that i wanted to know about one was, what the heck was a banyann tree ?

The tree is an East Indian tree that puts out aerial shoots that grow down into the soil forming additional trunks. (Shown above) and its said to grow figs as well (yummy)

Another thing I wanted to know more about was dhoties.

Dhoties is basically traditional Indian clothing worn by both men and women. (shown below)

That what going on Under the Banyan Tree

Doe Season

Two men and their children a nine year old girl nicknamed Andy and a boy, Mac, eleven years of age go on a hunting trip in the Pennsylvania woods. They leave Andy's home at dawn. Mac's father, Charlie, objects to Andy's coming along because of her age and because she will be the only girl in an otherwise all-male hunting party. Her father tries to conciliate Charlie by noting that animals including deer........bla bla bla this story is one of the (to me) most repeated story lines (very lifetime) where someone goes though something that makes them who they are today at some point in our lives we are programed to be who we plan on being in life through the things we face.

The one thing I did like that i salvaged from this story was how she realized how she needed to be her self which alot of people fail to do now a days people tend to just follow instead of leading and making some one out of themselves.

BE YOURSELF IT A GOOD LOOK : )

The Problem with Human Compassion

This story was about a dog that was lost at sea until an accumlation of people around the world came together and raised 300,000 to help bring this dog back on solid ground. But on the back side of this there were soman horrid events going on such a genocide in Rwanda and it was felt that people didint care as much for that genocide in Rwanda as to just one dog on a boat.

Reading this story really wasnt that compelling to me what was is the type of dog it was Hokget was a terrier pretty cool dog i would like one dont know if i would spent 300,000 on him though besides i wouldnt intend on bringing him on any boats.

Story of an Hour

This story is about Louise Mallard has heart trouble, so she must be informed carefully about her husband’s death. Her sister, Josephine, tells her the news. Louise’s husband’s friend, Richards, learned about a railroad disaster when he was in the newspaper office and saw Louise’s husband, Brently, on the list of those killed. Louise begins sobbing when Josephine tells her of Brently’s death and goes upstairs to be alone in her room. While in her room she goes through a couple of emotions saddnes, and awkwardly joy. Indeed sad because her husband is dead but she all of a sudden she get happy because she is free of his horrid ways until, Josephine comes to her door, begging Louise to come out, warning her that she’ll get sick if she doesn’t. Louise tells her to go away. She fantasizes about all the days and years ahead and hopes that she lives a long life. Then she opens the door, and she and Josephine start walking down the stairs, where Richards is waiting.

The front door unexpectedly opens, and Brently comes in. He hadn’t been in the train accident or even aware that one had happened. Josephine screams, and Richards tries unsuccessfully to block Louise from seeing him. Doctors arrive and pronounce that Louise died of a heart attack brought on by supposed happiness yea right she died because her heart couldnt handle the tourment that her husban was due to put her through.

Upon reading about Louise's condition it made me look into how to prevent having a heart condition here are some of the tips i found on mayoclinic.com these are just a couple ways to alter your diet to prevent such a thing from happening to you.

1. Limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol

2. Choose low-fat protein sources

3. Eat more vegetables and fruits

4. Select whole grains (yucky lol)

5. Reduce the salt in your food

6. Control your portion size

7. Plan ahead: Create daily menus

8. Allow yourself an occasional treat ( me likey : ) )

A & P

Three teenage girls, wearing only their bathing suits, walk into an A&P grocery store in a small New England town. Sammy, a young man working the checkout line, watches them closely. He appraises their looks and notes even minute details about the way they carry themselves. He also speculates about their personalities and their motivation for entering the store dressed the way they are. Sammy is particularly interested in the most attractive girl, who appears to be the leader of the group. This girl, whom Sammy dubs “Queenie,” has a natural grace and confidence, in addition to her beauty. As the girls roam the aisles of the A&P, they create a stir. As Sammy points out, the store is in the center of town, nowhere near the beach, where the girls’ attire would attract less notice. Sammy’s coworker Stokesie ogles the girls as well, joking around with Sammy as he does so. Sammy jokes along with him, but he feels the contrast between himself, still single, and the married Stokesie. Stokesie is resigned to a life of working at the A&P, whereas Sammy, although admitting that he and Stokesie are much alike, seems to feel that such a future is beneath him. As yet another of his coworkers begins to admire the girls, Sammy feels a twinge of pity for them for having compromised themselves this way, most likely without realizing it. This feeling is quickly supplanted by pure excitement as the girls choose Sammy’s checkout line to make their purchase........read it if you want to know what happends after

But as for a theme I saw in this story it was, the power of desire. From the moment the girls walk into the A&P, they attract the gaze of every man in the store, which demonstrates the power their sexuality gives them over the opposite sex. Although they make a point of acting nonchalant (Queenie more successfully than the other two), the girls are well aware of the eyes tracking their every move. As long as the girls do not acknowledge the men’s interest, they are in a position of power inspiring desire but not subject to it. Their strategy works well, and the A&P’s male employees—even the unyielding Lengel—show some degree of sexual interest. However, Lengel ultimately undermines this strategy and tries to lessen their power. By confronting the girls so bluntly, Lengel calls the girls on their behavior, embarrassing them by suggesting that they are well aware of the inappropriateness of their attire. Queenie’s claim “We are decent” is an attempt to reestablish their superior position, implying that it is Lengel who is being inappropriate.
